On another note… I used to get bullied.

This is the second time I’ve seen this and it’s impact is still so powerful. I was bullied as a kid. Told I was fat and ugly or that I couldn’t sit with my ‘friends’ because they voted some else in instead. From the time I was 12 to about 20 I suffered silently from depression being told it was ‘just in my head’. I wanted to die, and thought about it many times. I took what those bullies, some who were even teachers, said to heart, that I was stupid and no good and fat and ugly. Then I got help, realized anxiety and depression are an illness and there are some people who just want to see you suffer. I wish I had spoken up and things had been different but I have a thick skin and think better of myself now. I still have self esteem issues but I’m learning to work past them. I’m still learning a lot about myself and that I can’t let what others have said about me effect who I become. I am still don’t trust that my friends don’t talk about me when I’m not there, even though there response to me talking about this has been so positive and encouraging. I don’t have is time for people who pretend to like you only to turn around and talk about you. I’ve looked up those bullies on Facebook and I am almost amused when I see that there not as successful as we all thought they would be. Get help. It does get better.

daily inspiration….

I’ve taken up a second job these days, friends and clients have asked me to help overhaul their closets. It has involved going through their existing wardrobe and help put together outfits for the upcoming season as well as  forcing them to donate pieces that just don’t seem to work anymore. Once we’ve cleared out those pieces that just can’t be revived, we make a list of what they need to fill in the gaps. Being that I help people shop and put together outfits for a living it comes naturally and ends up being really fun.

To help these clients fill in the gaps and make these outfits I do have to be up on my trend reports. It may be January and minus 20 degrees today, but spring fashion is just around the corner. So here are some of my favorite blogs where I get my inspirations, outfit ideas and good pintrest content!

WHO WHAT WEAR - To say this site has a little bit of everything is an understatement! It has A LOT of everything. With regular “Trend Reports”, a trendsetters and celeberties section (organized alphabetical for easy serching!) and a new beauty section. The website is layed out like your favortire tear sheet section of a magazine and is always an exciting read.

NATIVE FOX - What can I say about Jennifer Grace, expect she gets my style! Everything she posts, wears , loves I do too! She has such a boho-hipster-chic feel which is somewhat how I describe the items I’m drawn to. With regular outfit posts and links/lists of all items shes wearing , it makes it oh so easy to get the look yourself!

imageimage

THE HAUTE PURSUIT - A blogger who splits her time between Vancouver - Bejing and New York. Not only does she talk all things she loves but examines trends and what’s new and hot in them!

imageimage

ORDINARY PEOPLE - Two cousins, Alyssa and Kurtis from Edmonton Alberta, who talk all things they love. 20 year old Alyssa makes regular outfit posts, talks trends, hot items and life. Vogue recently named her and her blog an It girl to watch. If Vogue can give a nod to a fashion loving canadian girl, well shes alright with me. Also in her latest post she quotes Harry Potter, and well my love for HP loves deep.

There are so many other great blogs out there, including Vogue daily, but I to review them all would take all week. More links to come, for now enjoy these great reads!

***EDIT

How could I forget what I consider to be the best for image browsing..

THANK GOD I’M A GIRL - All image content, this tumblr pulls from all sorts of top fashion blogs and Lookbook.nu pages for daily inspiration. I often get ideas for outfits from this sit.

Moonrise Kingdom...  I can not get enough of this movie! I have already watched it twice. It is absolutely adorable, with such a big name cast, it has such an indie film feel. It’s definitely a cold day curl up and watch movie. Apparently it is minus 20 degrees outside today but I wouldn’t know. I’ve been curled up all day reading my favorite Fashion Blogs and watching my way through the Oscar nominees, this years Oscar pool is mine!!

PANDAmodium!

Graphic Tee’s are making a comeback. I’ve always avoided a tee or top with a print on it that wasn’t in the fabric. I just always looked at them as something juvenile and couldn’t get into the look. It could be that I look younger then I am and customers give me attitude when they think I’m 19, they tend not to trust my opinion until I say well if you add 5 years I’m not as young as you think.

Lately I have not been able to avoid graphic tees/sweaters everywhere. It started with the skull trend, slowly followed by the homage to the Chanel logo. Now I am totally smitten, especially with the animal trend that’s hit the stores in the last few weeks! I came back from a weeks vacation to some awesome buys waiting for me in my store!

Today I gave in and rocked a Panda printed sweater with a silk blouse, leather leggings and of course a toque; it is January in Toronto after all!

After rocking this outfit all day and dressing a window mannequin in my store in the exact same outfit, my store is out of grey. Also the whole time I was wearing this sweater I could not stop thinking about HBO’s GIRLS. Season 2 episode 1 they talk emoticons and Pandas! For those die hard GIRLS fans you’ll get it.

We also got this adorable lion tee in and Tessa just had to have it, the similarities are uncanny!

Both graphic tee’s are from M for Mendocino!

More Posts coming soon, Its a new year and I’M BAAAAACCCCCKKKKK!

godbless alexader mcqueen.

Its no secret I love a monochromatic color palette. I can typically be seen wearing, well, mostly all black. I do however like to pair with grey and white as well. Lately I can not get enough of a colorless wardrobe. My go to accessory these days has to be my Skull Scarf, $25 at  M for Mendocino. Perfect for layering over a simple blouse, but a great way to jazz up my boring winter puffer jacket. We can thank Alexander McQueen for the popularity of the skull scarf. I remember owning a white silk skull scarf back in 2005 when they started to gain popularity. I was devastated when I lost it, but thanks to skull trend sticking around, I’ve been able to rebuild my collection.

Leather Legging, paired with a blouse or a graphic tee.

Jazzing up my puffer jacket, and rocking a cozy but edgy look with an over-sized cardi!

I wear it with everything these days, sorry If things are getting repetitive, I will try to introduce color again, meantime I’ve tracked down this scarf in a tan/beige color palette for summer. Think about it, a white knit top, denim shorts, sandals and a tan skull scarf, yes please!

spring trend report: Part One.

It may only be the middle of January but I can not stop thinking spring fashion. The trends are slowly hitting the pages of magazines and I expect we will all start evaluating our closets soon enough. For now I am making my list of must have pieces and the trends I am obsessing over. Here is the first one:

TREND: Black & White Stripes / Neutral Color Blocking.

I am so excited about this trend, I can’t even leave it for my grand finale. I have a pintrest board dedicated to my “big girl apartment” that I will one day move into. I am already planning a black, white and grey apartment. Except for the bedroom of course, that should remain my staple turquoise. As far as the fashion trends go, I am already on the hunt for the perfect chiffon striped button up to rock now with my leather leggings, and come spring with some shorts! Another alternative to this look is color blocking, for those who have an aversion to stripes (not sure why) a more neutral approach is a great option. Pairing a black top with a white skirt is simple but a great way to play up this trend at the same time.

 more to come.

puppy feaver!

I have always been a cat person, case and point my fur baby: Audrey Hepburn! I was heart broken when I had to leave her with my parents. My roommate is stupidly allergic to cats. Now I have lost my kitty to my Mum. She is never giving her back and I’ve slowly come to accept that.

Eventually when I am on my own again I will get a cat. For now my alternative is wanting a puppy. Its no secret I have been in love with Boston Terriers for a long time. There are adorable, they tilt sideways when they run and they’re kind of ugly in that really cute way, a face only a mother could love!

I have even started following a blog called FUCK YEAH BOSTON TERRIERS! I’ve been trying to weigh the best possible time to get one. They are apartment sized and cuddly, I’ve been doing reading on Boston Terrier Rescue Canada as well.

Eventually I started toying with the idea of other breeds that are the same size,  I’ve also become aware of T.E.A.M DOG RESCUE Toronto based dog rescue, the girls over at SPAW Boutique are big supporters and that’s how I became aware of the work they’re doing. Having dogs all my life I am a snob to certain breeds, heck I was born and had a doberman guard dog outside my crib.

Still weighing the pros and cons of getting a dog right now, or if I should just wait till I’m on my own and get a cat. The girls at my work are all in favor of me getting a dog and bringing it to the store with me, I work in the beaches after all.

The time I went to 3 events in one night and stripped in the back of a cab.. left me wearing a fabulous party dress for all of an Hour and a half. The great thing about my job is that if I feel like wearing a sparkly dress to work, I most certainly can!

my Outfit for Mendocino Christmas Party!

To make it day wear I added knee high socks and a hi/lo hem sweater, I do have to say though, On my way to work I was getting the stares like I was doing a walk of shame.

One dress two ways!

#ootd 008.

I spend my mornings taking pictures of my outfits. Today it was comfy and casual.
